It is with great sadness that we are saying goodbye to our dear friend Darnell, who after 15 years of deliveries and friendship, is being moved to a different route today by UPS. Darnell is a hero to our neighborhood: he always comes in with a smile, a sunny disposition, and has always gone the extra mile to make sure our stuff makes it directly into our hands. We`ve always considered him to be part of our team, and looked forward to seeing him every day. We`re going to miss him immensely. Much love to you, friend! You`re the greatest! Godspeed!

One aspect of our job that we dread is beveling giant stainless steel frets during a refret. We try to work smarter, not harder, in almost every aspect of our shop, but there are some jobs we just have to muscle through. Maybe someday some AI powered robot will do this for us (and put us out of work), but not today.

There are many reasons your guitar can benefit from a fret level and it’s not always because of worn frets.
Many guitars that come in, suffer from a rise in the fretboard extension which is also known as the ‘ski ramp’.
This can cause notes in the higher registers to not ring out clearly and in the worst case, cause string bends to choke out, especially on the high e string.
This Fret King guitar has been through the PLEK scanner which quickly indicates where the problem frets are and shows a rise from fret 13 to the end of the fretboard.
These frets can now be carefully levelled down to bring them back in line with the plane of the other frets, allowing for trouble free bends and notes to ring out clearly.

Our refrets are clamped and glued overnight, in a caul that matches the radius of the fret board. This makes for a more solid and even fret seating, and subsequently requires removing less material in the fret leveling process later.

We undercut and file away the fret tangs every time we refret a bound neck. This adds about 30 minutes to every refret, but it`s absolutely crucial for getting the fret to seat properly.
